I will do my best not to make this long and drawn out (but come on- it's me we all know better.) If you don't have the paitence to my points, then don't bother responding to this.
Yes, another flying post. No, I know I'm not important enough in the grand scheme of the forums to make my own post on this, however, I'm sure most of you know I can at least try to keep this semi-logical.
The whole point of this post, guys and girls, is to counter just about every excuse Bliz and the no flight folks can come up with.
All I want to focus on is the reasoning Bliz has given for the whole "no flying" stance and why I feel their reasoning is misplaced.
1) World pvp:
Yes, I played for about the first 6 months or so during Vanilla (I hate starting things like this by the way): I remember the TM/SS battles before the pvp system was implemented. And while I found them fun- AT THE TIME- world pvp started to die when the very first BG was implemented.
That BG was WSG. This was way back when BG's had no time limit and those things would last for days.
I want to say AB came next. At that point, world pvp had pretty much died. Why? Because people were spending all of their pvp time in instanced pvp. Heck, I do't even remember anyone asking for help out in the TM/SS area after BG's were implemented.
When I came back to the game during BC, want to know what world pvp was? Some guy out in The Crossroads killing NPCs. It was pretty rare that some higher level would actually go out and make the guy leave.
Why? Because everyone was in Shathrath, in an arena, or in a BG.
It wasn't flying that killed world pvp. It was BG's and arena's.
Why are BG's and arena's fun for people instead of world pvp? 1. the battles are more 'fair" (you are, after all fighting people of your own levels) and 2. BG's actually have goals. There is no goal to world pvp in WoW.
In case the "It'll bring back world pvp" folks (and Bliz) forgot: there's going to be an entire zone in WOD devoted to world pvp. One that lasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But, keep in mind, zones like WG only hold peoples attention for so long before it's back to queuing up for their BG's or arena battles again.
2) "Immersion":
I have been over this before. Immersion is different for everyone- it's subjective.
Why do I like flying? Because I find it fun to discover things I wouldn't have discovered if I were on the ground. For you groundlings, did you know there are penguins on the outskirts of Northrend? Do you know about the orphanage out in Nagrand? Did you know there's a farm and a house out in one of the Vanilla zones with 2 dwarves and a bunch of cats?
Know why I know about these? Because I discovered them while flying- you can't get to the orphanage in Nagrand on a ground mount (I've tried). You can get to the dwarf house without flying but I'm not telling you where my retirement home is.
Also for you groundlings- at the the Horde ones- have you ever literally walked to Silvermoon from the Undercity? I have- it takes a good 45 minutes to do, about half an hour to fly there (could be less, it's been a while since I've flown there).
To you goblins, have you ever tried to gobby jump from the highest point you can find without dying (make sure you are near water before attempting this)?
Which leads me to:
3) Skipping mobs:
We have an entire class devoted to being invisible- we call them rogues. Did you know they are about the only class in the game that can bypass just about every world mob?
Did you know a hunter can use their pet and feign death to avoid death by Fel Reaver?
I can go on and on about how just about every class has a way to avoid mobs.
There's also the good old "Just keep running and the mobs will stop chasing you" philosophy. Unlike a dungeon, the mobs do eventually run out of breath and go back to their homes.
So the whole using flying mounts to skip mobs mentality doesn't work because even in vanilla and BC, we were finding ways to avoid mobs. Heck, this mentality is also seen in dungeons all of the time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, to you folks that scream: "why all the crying?" Let me put it in a way you'll understand:
If Blizzard were to suddenly decide it wasn't worth their time to make instances or raids and just tell the stories via scenario's, wouldn't you have issue with that?
If they decided that they were taking all of the BG's and arena out of the game, wouldn't you have an issue with that?
Flying has been a major feature in this game much, much longer than grounded mounting has been. That is why there has been so much screaming over this lack of actual communication from Bliz.
And, of course, this is much longer then I intended it to be. I apologize to everyone.
