I'm going to start this and say- first off- I hate the idea of labeling people; however, it's a part of life that we all must deal with. Ever since we were kids, we've put labels on different kinds of people (you know, like how girls are icky and boys were just yucky). As we grow older, we start to vary out in labeling people.
In gaming, we tend to label people also.according to how they chose to spend their game time. I made a post recently about the 3 different types of labels we have in game for people and what we identify with those types. Now within each type of label we have sub-labels. HOWEVER, there are sub-labels of those sub-labels.
Let's go into what we classify people as:
1. Casual
2. Middle of the road
3. Hardcore
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So let's talk about the casual label a bit today. A casual gamer is classified as someone who doesn't have a lot of time to play, but tries to get what they can done in the amount of time they do have. Over the years, this phrase has started to take on a new meaning: "bad".
Okay so let's break things down a bit here, because there's a lot involved here:
1. The "unseen casual": these folks tend to stick to themselves and tend to not socialize much in game if at all. These folks may hop on for a couple of hours a week, do some questing/farming etc and log off. They probably average mayhap 40 hours in game a month. They don't really raid or do instances- or they may do these things whenever they reach max level.
2. The casual casual: these folks tend to have a little more time in game than the unseen casual does. But, like the unseen casual, they don't socialize much and might do some instances or LFR once a week.
3. The morning player casual: these are the third shifters. On a US server, not a lot of players are on in the morning hours, so attempting to put together a raid group at 7 in the morning isn't feasible for them (I used to be one- trust me it's a painful experience on the US servers in the mornings). Unlike the other two, this person does actually have friends on their servers but these friends are normally on at different times of the day.
4. The On call/new parent casual: ambulance folks etc. These folks are similar to the folks in group 3. Unlike those folks, they have to be able to drop things at a moment's notice.
Groups 1-4, no one with an ounce of sanity minds these guys. Everyone needs to know that these aren't the folks trying to get your class nerfed. I know plenty of casuals that are perfectly fine at this game. They may not be of "raider" quality, but they do the best with what they get.
And finally:
5. The BADUAL: This is the guy that has plenty of time to be online. This is the guy that doesn't bother taking care of the gear he has. This is the guy that expects everyone to carry him. This is the guy that so completely clueless, that he is totally unaware of it. He's also the one that gives the folks in category 1-4 a really bad rep.
I want to talk about this one in particular here:
What this guy isn't: he is not new to the game. He is lazy (Lots of folks in category 1-4 do gem and enchant their gear). This is the guy that just doesn't care. This is the guy that complains when someone beats him in pvp or always, always dies in a pve encounter (WTF HEALER?!? Y U NO HEAL ME?). You try to help this guy and all you are met with is "I NO WHAT I M DOING! LEAVE ME ALONE".
There are some non-casuals that can be classified here but this guy loves to claim he is a casual (even if his armory reflects otherwise).
The badual is very, very bad for an MMO game.
