I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't start creating alts until around Lich King.
Why did I start playing alts? Was it boredom? Was it wanting gold/professions to support my main?
No. I started making alts when I decided I wanted to start learning more about other classes and roles (since you can't tank or heal with a hunter).
But, that's just me. I never felt I needed an army of alts to support my (then) main, Twileki. Even before I quit WoW a few weeks back, I don't think I have ever had more than maybe 20K gold across the board. Never felt the need to have tons and tons of gold.
Now, I am not saying I've never had "mules" (characters that were basically my bank character or picked up a specific profession for a specific reason). I have and that experiment always ended badly.
So in come Garrisons and for some reason, Bliz has felt the need to target alts for "reasons". The people that decided that they HAVE to log in to every single character just to do treasure missions? I honestly bet they are in the minority.
So, Bliz, how are you going to determine which character is a main? Raiders will typically level their raiding main first (the character they plan on raiding with consistently). Others? Well I'm sure they choose their favorite character and go from there.
But what about those folks with altitis? A lot of those folks don't even have a main character. Heck, I've heard of people that will log onto one character one day, another character the next day, etc just to keep them around the same level. These folks don't have a main character.
So again Blizzard, what constitutes a main and what constitutes an alt? I have known many people that play different characters about the same amount of time.
People have alts these days because
1)it's quick to level these days (especially with the 90 boost <are you trying to kill your sales there?)
2) Content droughts- we've had plenty of those (how do you think I ended up with Juju back in Lich King?)
3)A plethora of other reasons, but the first two are the big ones.
So again, I ask, why are alts being penalized because of most likely a small amount of people? Are they-the minority- the reason we can't have nice things?
Just a simple question to ponder.
